Suddenly your mate appreciated you for the contributions. However, you were like, I don’t deserve that. At least you play that internally in your thought world. You rarely believe you are deserving. That’s why you even play down the appreciations.

It has been estimated that 70% of people feel this experience of impostor syndrome(IS). Still, a few people talk about it openly. Fortunately IS is not considered a mental illness. Nevertheless, we seldom talk about it.

There is a constant pressure to achieve. Many people who have this syndrome are brought up in families who focus on achievements. IS affects everyone be it the most successful person on this planet like me :P or a high school fresher.

To quote Sheryl Sandberg, COO at Facebook, “Every time I was called on in class, I was sure that I was about to embarrass myself. Every time I took a test, I was sure that it had gone badly. And every time I didn’t embarrass myself — or even excelled — I believed that I had fooled everyone yet again. One day soon, the jig would be up.”

We strive for perfection, that’s why we feel like we haven’t put in sufficient efforts. Maybe we could have done more. Like Rome, perfection isn’t built in a day. Else life would be mundane.

How do you overcome this experience?

Awareness is the key. Until you accept you are facing it, you can’t overcome it. Talk about it with your closed one’s, in the digital world everyone is just a ring away. Make subtle change in your attitude by reading the magical books. The more you read, the more you know. The more you know, the more you know oneself. It sounds simple but being a Turtle🐢 isn’t easy especially in the virtual world, where we crave to be Rabbit🐰 all the time :D

Until then..

Smile it won’t cost you a penny :)

Cheers to the cohort members for continuing the Tiny Project for Day 3!

You’ve always liked being smart. Be smarter by forwarding this to your closed ones.
