Swiping != Quitting
I spoke with one of my cohort members who was facing challenges to continue the habit happily. Though, he still managed to push himself for 8 days consistently to do the habit. It speaks that he is interested in reading. However, he was doing it with a burden. To simplify the process I gave him an analogy of videos he had been used to watching. When he doesn’t like something, he easily swipes to the next one. But when it comes to reading a book, he was sticking himself to the book in his hand. He wasn’t swiping to the next one. It is easy to swipe in the virtual world 😄
We should know when we need to swipe. Swiping in the virtual is an easy task it happens in a microsecond just with a flick. It isn’t that simple in the real world and can’t be done in a flick. When you are disinterested in something and doing it with a burden, it’s time to self-reflect as in where the taste doesn’t match up. Do keep one thing in mind that you won’t enjoy each and every tiny second of the activity. There will be ups and downs in the journey. If the significant time is spent disinterestedly it’s time to think more. The best way is to talk it out or write down the thoughts. Having clarity of thoughts solves most of the problems.
Swiping isn’t quitting. It’s to look for alternatives paths to move ahead whereas in quitting we completely stop doing the activity. Be clever like the smart device in your hand and swipe, when you are disinterested.
The question popping up in your primary smart device, brain, might be how to ease up the process of swiping in the real world. Talk to the people who have developed similar habits over a long span of time. It’s highly likely that the problem that you are currently facing has been solved by someone in the past and you can easily read about them on the internet. Just to remind you it is easier said than done.
