The above image makes it clear the sign up buttons by the giants are social logins. The sign ups through Facebook, Google or LinkedIn and more.

How often do you sign up with social logins?

We do that frequently every other day and each one of us do that. There are more than 2 billions FB accounts and around 2 billions Gmail account, which means the user base is approximately 2 billions accounts. Per datanyze FB is leading the market share with approximately 48% market share in the social sign in. But why do these social giants provide social logins?

From user perspective, it helps us to save time in signing up to any other website we want to sign up. Just in a few clicks we are able to sign up. However how does it help the giants? Are they providing free lunch? There is no free food in the digital space :D. “If You’re Not Paying For It, You Become The Product”

Thinking how come you are the product?

We provide the valuable data to the giants for free. They know to which website we are signing up and through that they infer valuable insights about us. The more the data they have, the better personalized ads they can show us. Better the ads, higher the revenue. The giants are even further able to increase it’s brand image, since without the trusting the brand we won’t be using it for signing up.

A social sign up is a small product but there is so many things running behind. After all data is the only oil in digital space.

Until tomorrow…
